At Matter Labs, we believe freedom drives progress and prosperity. We don’t see ourselves as a company, but as a team aligned around a single mission: to advance personal freedom for all (see ZK Credo).
To achieve this goal, we’re building zkSync — a credibly neutral, fully open source technology stack and network on top of Ethereum, which is owned and governed by its community. We use advanced cryptography called zero-knowledge proofs to scale Ethereum infinitely without compromising on security or decentralization. With a world-class team, a community of over 1M supporters across Twitter + Discord, and hundreds of millions $ in funding, we have abundant resources to accomplish the mission.
We’re looking for a People Partner Lead to lead People initiatives for our Business teams. Reporting directly to the COO and partnering closely with the Business Executives of Matter Labs, you will drive strategic projects that elevate talent, performance, and culture across the organization. From performance management and organizational design to policy rollouts, you’ll play a pivotal role in ensuring we attract, retain, and develop the best talent in the industry.
This role requires someone who is not only an excellent communicator but also highly action-oriented, with the ability to manage up, down, and across effectively. You’ll need to balance empathy with execution, ensuring things get done while building trust and rapport with stakeholders at all levels. As Matter Labs does not have a Head of People, you’ll need to work independently and confidently, driving key decisions that shape our people strategy.
As a fully remote company operating across 30+ countries, flexibility, adaptability, and strong organizational skills are essential. Matter Labs is a fast-paced environment where you will have a significant impact on our high-performance culture.
This role is fully remote and open to candidates working in Eastern US or EMEA timezones, however ideally you have experience dealing with US operations.
What You'll Be Doing
- For HRBP, the focus will be on general HRBP duties for our Business teams and building trust with stakeholders. Sample HRBP projects include Performance Management (promotion recommendations, PIP, terminations), Leveling Framework improvements, Manager/Employee training and development, internal communication and rollout of new policies.
- Partner with business leaders and various functional teams on strategic and operational execution including, team effectiveness, change management, organizational design, performance management, retention, engagement, talent and succession planning, professional growth and more.
- Support managers in identifying and addressing organizational and people issues, removing barriers and increasing engagement and effectiveness across teams in the region.
- Support the development of HR policies, practices, process, programs and ensure their compliance with local labour laws and regulations.
- For Employee Lifecycle/Engagement: the focus will be on program managing several initiatives to ensure employees are engaged and continue to develop. Sample Employee Lifecycle/Engagement projects include Team Offsites, and rollout and analysis of bi-annual Employee Engagement Surveys.
- For the U.S. Benefits/Policies, you will work with the People Operations team on managing the U.S. HR Benefits/Policies & compliance for currently 30+ employees across 20+ states. It’s important for us to offer top tier, competitive benefits, and from an employer branding perspective, we want to make sure to showcase it both internally to employees and externally to candidates.
- Sample US Benefits/Policies projects include ensuring U.S. Handbook is updated with legal compliance across federal and state guidelines (other examples: 401K, healthcare, harassment training, visa and relocation, employer branding, etc.) Once we’ve established best in class U.S. Benefits/Policies, this role will expand to include more HRBP and Employee Lifecycle/Engagement responsibilities.
- Across all of these focuses, you’ll need to be a best-in-class communicator — both internally and externally, across various mediums (we use Notion, Slack, GSuite).
What We Look For in You
- 7+ years demonstrated experience in HR/People roles (ex. Leadership, HRBP, Generalist, Operations, Program Manager)

- Aligned with our values: growth mindset, positivity mindset, ownership mindset, collaborative working style, low ego, high agency, high curiosity
- Expert communicator and storyteller. Proficiency in English required
- Excellent influencing skills - able to manage up (senior leadership) or down (all employees) in the organization - to win hearts and minds
- Passionate about creating a positive employee experience
- Thrives on variety and adept at switching contexts
- Self-starter who can respond to problems independently and proactively providing solutions/outcomes
