In 2017, over half the population in Sub-Saharan Africa had no bank account. That's for good reason—the fees are too high, the closest branch can be miles away, and nobody takes cards. Without access to financial institutions, people are forced to keep their savings under the mattress. Small business owners rely on lenders who charge extortionate rates. Parents spend hours waiting in line to pay school fees in cash.

We're solving this by building financial services that just work: no account fees, instantly available, and accepted everywhere. In places where electricity, water and roads don't always work, you can still send money with Wave. In 2017, we launched a mobile app in Senegal for cash deposit, withdrawal, and peer-to-peer and business payments. Now, we have millions of users across 9 countries and are growing fast.

How you'll help us achieve it

As we grow in Niger, the Training Lead will focus on strategic planning and rigorous supervision of all training activities. The role involves setting the foundation for the country's training objectives and ensuring high-quality support for the Agent Network.

In this role you'll;

  • Training needs assessments
    • Lead the regional operations team in identifying opportunities to improve the operational execution.
    • Determine training requirements by reviewing the training strategy defined by the country leads and reviewing results of agent trainer coaching; evaluating training effectiveness.
  • Training material translated into English, French
    • Lead the translation of training content.
    • Utilize observations and data-driven insights to help improve training materials.
    • Assist with training vocals and video recording.
  • Training planning and delivery
    • Execute individual training sessions for the team, site and remote facilitation training activities, and lead training sessions when needed.
    • Perform agent visits addressing the team’s action items.
    • Coordinate and assist with the training and implementation of new rollouts regionally in liaison with regional and territory leads.
  • Training admin and evaluation
    • Manage and administer the training for assigned regions including monitoring the right slack channels, WhatsApp groups etc. to gather training requirements and gaps.
    • Evaluate and report training program(s) effectiveness, and help implement changes as needed.
    • Gather feedback from trainees during and following training to determine instructional and content effectiveness in collaboration with your lead.
    • Quality assurance and continuous improvement standards for the delivery of OKRs, E-Learning and key skills training targets per assigned staff can be achieved.
  • Plan and execute the transition from the training of agents from face-to-face to digital.

  • Location: You'll work from our office in Niamey and may travel to field locations.

Requirements

  • Fluent in French, English, and good command of local languages.
  • At least 5 years of relevant work experience, specifically managing training or an agent network
  • Ideally, have prior work experience in a learning & development context, teaching and/or training admin experience in a corporate setting.
  • Enjoy learning and can grasp a breadth of fields.
  • Are proficient in group training, presentations and public speaking.
  • Can analyze data to measure training ROI and identify operational gaps.
  • Have experience in facilitating group learning events.
  • Comfortable working on the field and interacting regularly with agents face-to-face.
  • Have built and led strong teams in achieving key results.
  • Adjust quickly to changing priorities and conditions.
  • Are tech-savvy: proficient in digital training tools including Google Sheets, Slack for content delivery and administration.

  • Possess a Master’s degree or equivalent job experience in a related field.

  • Have prior work experience in a learning & development context; teaching and/or training admin experience in a university, corporate, or government setting is a plus.

  • Have experience in facilitating group learning events.
  • Comfortable working on the field and interacting regularly with agents face-to-face.
