In 2017, over half the population in Sub-Saharan Africa had no bank account. That's for good reason—the fees are too high, the closest branch can be miles away, and nobody takes cards. Without access to financial institutions, people are forced to keep their savings under the mattress. Small business owners rely on lenders who charge extortionate rates. Parents spend hours waiting in line to pay school fees in cash.

We're solving this by building financial services that just work: no account fees, instantly available, and accepted everywhere. In places where electricity, water and roads don't always work, you can still send money with Wave. In 2017, we launched a mobile app in Senegal for cash deposit, withdrawal, and peer-to-peer and business payments. Now, we have millions of users across 9 countries and are growing fast.

How you'll help us achieve it

We are hiring a People Operations Associate with expertise in Sierra Leone labor law, payroll, HR, and office management.

You will be the first point of contact for Wave Sierra Leone Employees' human resources requests and collaborate with the People (consisting of Payroll, Talent, IT, and HR Business Partners) and Legal team to ensure overall excellent employee experience and the efficient functioning of our Sierra Leone office.

In this role, you'll;

  • Compile and update employee records (hard, soft copies, and HRIS).
  • Manage documentation and prepare reports on employee activities.
  • Ensure human resources compliance with internal and country legislation.
  • Assist in payroll preparation by providing relevant supporting data to the Payroll team.
  • Manage employees outsourced to service providers.
  • Collaborate with Recruiting, Payroll, Accounting, Finance, and other teams to ensure successful onboarding and off-boarding of employees.
  • Coordinate and oversee admin and logistics in the office.
  • Own Sierra Leone's human resource budgets by tracking and reporting on spending.
  • Oversee and support domestic and international travel arrangements.
  • Manage employee relations, complaints, and queries.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or professional training in business administration, human resources, or a related field.
  • In-depth knowledge of labor law and HR best practices in Sierra Leone.
  • 5+ years of experience in a similar role, ideally at an international company.
  • Experience in the Financial services sector would be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of HRIS, preferably BambooHR.
