Merchant Opening Territory Supervisors

Our mission

We're making Africa the first cashless continent.

In 2017, over half the population in Sub-Saharan Africa had no bank account. That's for good reason—the fees are too high, the closest branch can be miles away, and nobody takes cards. Without access to financial institutions, people are forced to keep their savings under the mattress. Small business owners rely on lenders who charge extortionate rates. Parents spend hours waiting in line to pay school fees in cash.

We're solving this by building financial services that just work: no account fees, instantly available, and accepted everywhere. In places where electricity, water and roads don't always work, you can still send money with Wave. In 2017, we launched a mobile app in Senegal for cash deposit, withdrawal, and peer-to-peer and business payments. Now, we have millions of users across six countries and are growing fast.

Our goal is to make Africa the first cashless continent and that's where you come in...

How you'll help us achieve it

Wave is now the largest financial institution in Senegal, with over 7 million users. And, we're still in the early days of our product roadmap and potential impact on people's everyday lives.

We're looking for a hands-on, results-driven Merchant Opening Territory Supervisor to lead the daily field execution of our merchant onboarding strategy in your assigned zone. You will supervise a Merchant Field Openers (MFOs) team, ensure quality and timely onboarding, and play a critical role in hitting our merchant acquisition and activation targets.

You'll be responsible for organizing, coaching, and supporting your team while maintaining close alignment with the Regional Lead. You will be the go-to person for field execution challenges and performance improvement within your territory.

In this role, you'll:

  • Manage the Merchant Opening Team in an allocated zone:
    • Supervise Merchant Openers, monitor performance daily, and ensure they're hitting key KPIs.
    • Identify blockers on the ground and work with the Regional Lead and other internal teams to address them quickly.
    • Organize daily briefings, field visits, and weekly performance reviews with your team.
    • Identify and coach underperforming staff and escalate if performance doesn't improve.
  • Build the Roadmap:
    • Use dashboards (Periscope, Google Sheets) to track progress and define daily/weekly action plans.
    • Analyze merchant data and field feedback to adapt your zone strategy.
    • Support planning for expansion into new markets or segments within your territory.
  • Ensure High-Quality Execution in the Field:
    • Lead field visits, mystery shopping, and onboarding quality checks.
    • Ensure supplies (QR codes, t-shirts, badges) and tools (Field App access, phones) are available and functional.
    • Coordinate your team's deployment according to foot traffic patterns, market needs, and team availability.
  • Team Leadership:
    • Organize trainings.
    • Ensure all new Merchant Field Officers are adequately onboarded and clearly understand their objectives and working tools.
    • Promote a performance-driven and feedback-oriented culture.
  • Reporting:
    • Share daily and weekly updates with your Regional Lead, including highlights, blockers, performance, wins, and staffing status.
    • Document and escalate issues that require cross-team collaboration (Eng, support, risk).
